This album has been a personal favourite of mine for quite some time but despite many attempts at searching I've never managed to uncover much info about the band. The band was formed by members from a previous band called Salon Music ( サロン・ミュージック) and managed to find brief success when one of their songs was selected to feature on the soundtrack of the animated adaptation of the comic Berzerk way back in 1997. As far as I know this album and another entitled Hollywood are the only 2 albums the band ever released before drifting off into the great ether. I have no idea if the band are still together and active or if the members went on to form other bands. If anyone has any more info or know where I can get hold of their other album Hollywood please get in touch.
Silver Fins have a great lo-fi, sloppy early 90's grungy, alt-rock sound. The band evoke the lazy charm of Pavement and early Beck and the slurred, badly pronounced and grammatically awkward English lyrics only add to their loser stylings.
I stumbled upon this post while looking up information on the band. Not unlike you I managed to get ahold of Pigment but can't find any info on Hollywood or any other releases. I want to say that they had an EP or something as well, but I don't remember what it's called- if it even exists. I know that they were featured on a compilation album called 'Snakeman's Band' and that Silver Fins has broken up. Its members have since moved on to other projects, or so I've heard. If you're able, track down some stuff by Salon Music; it's quite good and similar to Silver Fins' sound.
ReplyDeleteI'd be greatly interested in Hollywood or any other release of theirs as well. I know that someone uploaded a pair of tracks on youtube that I hadn't heard (I imagine they came off of Hollywood). They're called 'Powder' and 'Undo'. There's also a PV for their single Zooing. Years ago I remember seeing a low-quality PV on youtube for their single 'Horse Riding' off of Pigment as well. Happy hunting, mate! And here I thought I was the only one who loved these guys!
